Writing Forum Contemplates Food and Culture: Gastronomica

The New School Writing Program and the Food Studies Department held a forum on Sept. 9, 2008, to discuss the history, literature, and cultural impact of food, with editor Darra Goldstein of Gastronomica and other writers. Watch forum.

The reading and discussion focused on Gastronomica, the Journal of Food and Culture. The forum featured Darra Goldstein, founding editor of Gastronomica, cookbook author, and the Francis Christopher Oakley Third Century Professor of Russian at Williams College.

Participants include Arlo Crawford, whose work has appeared in the New York Times magazine and is currently working on a project about his family’s farm in Central Pennsylvania; Andrew Zornoza, whose stories have appeared in Confrontation, Porcupine Literary Arts, CapGun, and Matter Magazine, and; moderated by Luis Jaramillo, associate chair of The New School Writing Program.
